Who am i?

I’m Kavi, an altruistic SEO evangelist with ten years’ experience leading organic search strategy for top companies in entertainment, cybersecurity, education, and beyond. A former Mozzer, I am the creator of Moz Academy’s Technical SEO Certification and have lent my expertise to Whiteboard Friday, brightonSEO, and Pubcon, among other notable industry outlets and events.

I have extensive experience presenting live and virtual training sessions on holistic website strategy, information architecture, keyword and content management, technical SEO, career planning, and mental health for international audiences. I have enjoyed freelancing as a strategy and management consultant for agency and in-house digital marketing teams of all sizes.

I’m currently the Director, SEO at Gartner, working in the Gartner Digital Markets division to build connections between buyers and providers on the world’s largest platform for finding software and services.

outside of work

When I’m not obsessing over spreadsheets, you can find me hosting pub quizzes with Geeks Who Drink, hosting movie parties at the Alamo Drafthouse, playing poker, or watching baseball (go Astros) with a good beer in hand. I am (very slowly) pursuing an official Cicerone certification, which is akin to the sommelier designation, but recognized in the beer industry.

I hold a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College and a MS in Publishing from the University of Houston–Victoria. I’m originally from Houston, Texas and now live in Austin with my partner, Tim, and my cat, Pfeffernusse.

What’s with the knuckle tattoos?

I’m lucky to have worked with some incredibly talented tattoo artists across the country (plus one in Amsterdam). My knuckles, which were tattooed by Erin Blaney of Mosaic Tattoo Studio, say “RARE VOS” in an homage to one of my favorite beers and favorite animals.

Rare Vos is an award-winning amber ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, near my former home of Ithaca, New York. The beer’s name means “strange fox” in Flemish and references a tavern near Brussels. Ommegang enjoys national distribution—try a Rare Vos if you enjoy the style and find one nearby. You won’t regret it.
